Cedar shake repair addresses the natural wear cedar roofing faces over time – splitting, curling, moss growth, and shakes that have cracked or fallen off entirely. Cedar shakes require more specialized care than composite materials, since replacement pieces need to match the existing wood's age, thickness, and weathering.
We handle this for Rombauer, MO homeowners with cedar shake roofs showing individual damaged shakes, moss or algae buildup holding moisture against the wood, or more widespread wear from age and sun exposure. Cedar shake roofs can last decades with proper maintenance, but neglected repairs let small problems spread.
We inspect the roof for split, curled, or missing shakes, along with checking the underlayment where shakes have failed completely and exposed it to the elements. Individual shakes get replaced by carefully removing the damaged piece without disturbing surrounding shakes, then fitting a new one that matches the existing pattern. For roofs with moss or algae buildup, we treat and clean affected areas to stop moisture retention, which is one of the leading causes of premature cedar shake failure.
Cost depends on how many shakes need replacement and whether moss treatment or broader maintenance is needed.
